ŠOLTA
 




The island of Solta (www.solta.hr) is one of middle Dalmatian islands. It lies in the center of the Adriatic Sea, on its eastern coast. It is only 9 nautical miles (ca 15 km) away from the city of Split. Solta’s length is 19 km and its max width is 4.9 km. It lies in the direction of west-northwest-southeast.


The area of Solta is 57,886 km2 and together with small islands in front of the bay of Maslinica (Polebrnjak, Saskinja, Balkun, Kamik, Sarac, Grmej, Stipanska) it is 58,875 km2. Krk, Cres, Brac, Hvar, Pag, Korcula, Dugi otok, Mljet, Rab, Vis, Losinj, Pasman are larger than Solta while smaller nearby islands are Ciovo and Drvenik Veli.

The main island’s port Rogac is connected to Split by ferry and catamaran a few times a day. During the peak season the number of ferry lines is unlimited and it depends on the interest of passengers. On Friday and Sunday ferry and catamaran go to Stomorska while ferry only goes to Necujam on Friday and Sunday. These two places are also connected by private regular and excursion lines. Maslinica is not directly connected to the mainland by boats but almost all regular ferry and catamaran arrivals are covered by a bus line from Rogac to Grohote, Maslinica, Necujam, Stomorska, Gornje Selo, Donje Selo i Srednje Selo.
